Favorite bird?
Barred Owl
What do you seek to communicate in your work?
The Purple Gallinule contains all the colors of the rainbow, from red to indigo. However, some of the hues are only visible when light shines on them in a particular way. I hope this goofy-footed bird can serve as an inspiration for all of us to be able to show the proud, brilliant parts of ourselves that are sometimes hiding just beneath the surface. So with that, "Show me your colors honey!"
How has nature been a source of inspiration for you?
I'm dazzled by how nature is so perfect with color. I'm fascinated that most environments, creatures, and specimens have their own unique language of color that specifically aids in their survival and expression in the world.
Tell us about your most memorable bird experience.
There's been so many, but the most recent was observing a pair of nesting barred owls. My partner and I moved in with his parents at the beginning of the pandemic, and our nightly entertainment was going out to watch them hunt at dusk. They have always been a favorite and on my birding list so to suddenly have a front row seat to their evening show was quite a thrill!
