What do you seek to communicate in your work?

My work is heavily involved with empathy as an artifact of an impactful childhood experience (see below). Increasingly, I am feeling pulled to broaden the conceptual scope to investigate and better understand larger natural forces — Chaos & Order.

Red-winged Blackbird Alphabet, 2019, ink on paper, 12 x 16 inches.
Turkey Vulture, 2020, ink on paper, 6 x 9 inches.

How has nature been a source of inspiration for you?

Aside from being an endless source of subject matter, nature is the best quasi-sketchbook I know. A simple walk in any environment is often where I begin to unravel and process new conceptual ideas.

Tell us about your most memorable bird experience.

Rescuing an injured brown thrasher as a little girl. The bird passed the following day at an animal wildlife center, but the experience left a lasting impact on me regarding the complex role man plays within the scope of Nature.

Illustration of a turkey vulture perched on bare branches, surrounded by white moths against a dark black background.
