Favorite bird?
Hard to say. Either Osprey, Western Tanager, Pileated Woodpecker, Lazuli Buntings...love hearing Wrentits.
What do you seek to communicate in your work?
I am usually designing a logo for an event. Whether it's a main logo or a t-shirt design or a disc golf stamp, I try to connect the viewer to the even with a bird or anything in nature.
How has nature been a source of inspiration for you?
When connecting a viewer to a graphic, nature just makes it easier. It's simple. The coolest images, shapes, colors and more come from nature. Trees, birds, mountains, sunsets just look amazing.
Tell us about your most memorable bird experience.
I always think back to a time staying at Bear Basin fire lookout. I heard a Pileated Woodpecker just below. I mimicked the call on time and to my surprise it appeared on the top of a tree about 200 feet away. I quickly picked up my camera and got it in frame. It was a miracle the first shutter press got it in focus, with only the bird and small tree limbs in the foreground, and mountains 10 miles away dominating the background. The woodpecker was gone in 3 seconds but I was able to capture one of my favorite photographs.
