Black AF In STEM x Bird Collective
Black Birders Week 2021 Collaboration
May 25, 2021
Black Birders Week is back for its second year – and we’re teaming up with the BlackAFinSTEM Collective to celebrate the success of their efforts to support and highlight Black birders and conservationists.
This year’s event, which runs from May 30 through June 5, will showcase the many ways Black people connect in the outdoors. We’re excited to share a new design from certified science illustrator Liz Wahid of a pair of Boat-tailed Grackles in a coastal marsh, screen-printed by Philadelphia Printworks, a Black and women-owned printing workshop created in 2010 that advocates and fundraises for marginalized communities.
The collection also includes a limited edition sticker pack including artwork from one of Black Birders Week's co-founders Chelsea Connor.
The BlackAFinSTEM Collective was started last year to inspire new audiences to engage in nature and share the stories of Black conservationists across the country. This year’s #BlackBirdersWeek lineup includes nationwide birding events, live-streamed panel discussions, and daily interactive themes. Check out the entire schedule here and follow BlackAFinSTEM on Twitter.
Bird Collective will donate 100% of the profits from this collection to BlackAFinSTEM, as it celebrates Black experiences in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and works to make outdoor recreation safe and accessible.
