#29 California Quail
California Quails are richly-patterned, round birds that can be found hurrying across clearings in brushy areas of California and the Northwest. Their most distinctive feature is their comma-shaped head plume, which is actually a cluster of six overlapping feathers. California's state bird, they avoid mountains and stick to the coast and valleys.
