The American Goshawk is a fast and powerful forest hunter, preying on medium-sized birds like grouse and small mammals. They are widespread across northern North America’s conifer and western mountain forests. Roughly every ten years, when their preys’ populations run low, a number of these secretive birds push south of their normal range in the east and into the valleys of the west.
