Create an AccountHerons and egrets are among the most iconic birds of wetlands, shorelines, and waterways. This collection celebrates these remarkable wading birds and the habitats they depend on.
Wading birds are important indicators of wetland and estuarine health. For more than 40 years, NYC Bird Alliance has been monitoring breeding colonies of wading birds in New York Harbor. Their research reveals population trends, identifies emerging threats, and provides the data needed to guide conservation efforts.

We've donated $13,000 in honor of NYC Bird Alliance and their 40+ years of research on New York Harbor's nesting herons and egrets. That long-term science helps turn knowledge into action, including efforts to protect the Black-crowned Night Heron, a species their research indicates could disappear from NY Harbor as soon as 2037 without conservation action.
