#14 California Condor

Behold the California Condor, North America’s largest land bird! The condor became extinct in the wild in the late ‘80s, with the remaining individuals brought into captivity. An ambitious and historic conservation and reintroduction campaign has brought the wild population back up to almost 500 - so there’s much work to still be done.

The Yurok Tribe in northwest California has been leading a broad partnership for more than a decade to bring the California Condor back to their ancestral land around the Klamath River and surrounding region. Condors occupy an important place in Yurok culture.

Bird Collective has donated to the Tribe and supports their ecological and cultural stewardship.
