Small, stealthy and ferocious, Northern Pygmy-Owls live year-round in the mountains of western North America and hunt by day. Though not much larger than sparrows, they’ll catch prey up to three times their size. They’re hard to spot, but small birds making a ruckus in the vicinity of one can tip off their presence.
