#78 Peregrine Falcon
One of the world’s most admired and studied birds, the Peregrine Falcon, whose name means “wanderer,” is found on every continent except Antarctica and in nearly every landscape. It’s also at home in cities, nesting on bridges and skyscrapers. Peregrines hunt a wide variety of birds, striking at high speed from tall perches. Once nearly wiped out by DDT, they rebounded after conservation efforts and a ban on the pesticide.
