Code of Conduct & Acknowledgment of Risk and Release

Bird Collective Code of Conduct

This code of conduct governs interactions between anyone participating in our events, including leaders.

The ABA Code of Birding Ethics must be followed by everyone participating in our event, in addition to the following:

Respect and promote birds and their environment.

• Give birds space and be mindful not to stress them.
• Protect sensitive bird habitat by remaining on paths and trails.
• Treat all forms of life you encounter on our events with respect.

Respect the Birding Community and Its Members

• Use welcoming and inclusive language.
• Come with an open attitude and listen to others.
• Be respectful of differing perspectives, lived experiences, cultures, abilities, and access needs.
• Use a person’s correct pronouns, if they are shared.
• Do not make assumptions about another person’s abilities or access needs.
• Respect mobility devices, service animals, assistive devices, and other accessibility supports. Do not touch, move, distract, or interfere with them without permission.
• Help keep paths, gathering areas, and other shared spaces clear whenever possible.
• Be patient with changes in pace, route, communication, or other adjustments made by event leaders to support participants’ access needs.

Some behavior is unacceptable during our events: 

• Use of sexualized language, unwelcome sexual attention, or unwanted physical contact.
• Personal attacks, insults, or derogatory comments.
• Harassment, exclusion, ridicule, or derogatory comments based on disability, access needs, or the use of mobility or assistive devices.
• Intentionally interfering with another participant’s mobility device, service animal, assistive device, or other accessibility support.

Any participant engaging in unacceptable behavior may be asked to leave the event and/or be banned from future events.

Reporting A Concern

If you witness a Code of Conduct violation, please send an email to support@birdcollective.com with a description of the event, the individual(s) involved, the behavior, and any evidence, if you have it. All reports will be treated as confidential.

Acknowledgment of Risk and Release

I understand that participation in the event organized by Bird Collective Events LLC may involve risks including injury or property damage. I voluntarily assume full responsibility for my participation and release Bird Collective Events LLC, Bird Collective LLC, and their affiliates from any liability related to the event.

I confirm I am physically able to participate, authorize emergency medical treatment if needed, and accept responsibility for any associated costs.

I also consent to the use of any photos or videos taken of me during the event for promotional, documentary, or media purposes by Bird Collective, without compensation. If registering a participant under 18, I confirm I am their parent or legal guardian and agree to these terms on their behalf.

I affirm all information I've provided is accurate and understand that false information may result in removal from the event.
