#24 Red-headed Woodpecker

Sometimes called a “flying checkerboard,” the Red-headed Woodpecker is a stunning but infrequent sight in eastern North America, where its open-country habitat has declined. It’s the only North American woodpecker that stores and then covers its food, like insects or acorns, underneath bark.

This patch is inspired by Alabama Audubon’s conservation work in a state where Red-headed Woodpeckers remain year-round residents. Bird Collective donates a portion of its profits to Alabama Audubon and other bird conservation groups.

All embroidered bird patches have an iron-on backing, but the adhesive is temporary. For durability, we recommend sewing or using a permanent, flexible fabric glue.
