Where do you live?

Tallahassee, Florida!

What do you seek to communicate with your work?

It’s okay to laugh at yourself—the human experience is often confusing and painful, but attacking it with a combo of unseriousness and sincerity helps bring a bit of whimsy to the whole journey. Aesthetically, my work tends to reek of nostalgia.

How has nature been a source of inspiration for you?

On a spiritual level, nature helps ground me, organize my thoughts, and reminds me of my insignificance in the best way. More literally, I’m always looking to nature as a source of inspiration. Whether that’s shapes and colors, or something more specific like how angler fish reproduce. I like playing with the weird stuff in my work and nothing is more bizarre than our own planet and its inhabitants.

Tell us about your most memorable bird experience.

I grew up on the Gulf Coast, just down the street from the beach, so I spent so much of my childhood there. I vividly remember counting pelicans in each flock that flew by and always felt like they deserved everyone’s undivided attention.
