Aimee is a New York State Master Naturalist who's passionate about cataloging flora, fungi, and fauna through photography, sketching, and field recording.

What do you seek to communicate in your work?

As an artist + naturalist (& in my professional career) I want to communicate how art, community science + interdisciplinary collaborations can contribute to environmental protection, species conservation, and environmental justice.

How has nature been a source of inspiration for you?

Nature is awesome, we need it, it needs our help, it has value beyond the natural capital it provides us. I draw to compliment my naturalist observations to force myself to slow down + really look at what I am seeing. Nature provides endless material to learn & draw from.

Tell us about your most memorable bird experience.

Two winters ago I was walking the shoreline at Ft. Tilden (Queens) with friends, we notice a large white form in the dunes, which from a distance looked like a white plastic bag or trash. As we walk further down the shore line its form becomes clear and it turns its head toward us — a snowy owl! Same day we saw a man walking a chicken on a leash.
